After losing the opening two games of the new Premier League season, Unai Emery has finally managed to steady the ship and now the Gunners have won four games on the trot.

Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 at home this weekend and with that Emery’s side have managed to reach the sixth spot on the league table.

The London outfit saw goals from Aubameyang and Lacazette during the second half but Everton could have easily walked away from the match with the three points had it not been for the heroics for Petr Cech in the first 45 minutes.

Cech was easily the star of the match, coming up with one save after another to deny Everton from taking the lead in the first half but once the Gunners stepped on the pitch after the break they looked a totally different side.

And now manager Unai Emery has revealed that it was his half-time team talk which inspired his players to shift gears and score two goals in quick succession.

Emery said“We want to control more the first half. We didn’t have the ball like we want because we conceded two or three important chances, but we spoke in the dressing room to stop their attacking moments with better positioning on the pitch and also individually about each other helping more in the second half.

“And I think we only conceded one chance from a free-kick [in the second half] which was saved very well by Cech and in attacking moments we scored two goals and I think we played in 20 minutes to win this match.”

After losing the first two games, everyone thought Arsenal would be suffering the same fate as the previous seasons but picking up 12 points since then has catapulted the Gunners back amongst the big boys.

The kinds of performances that Unai Emery’s Arsenal are churning out now, a top-four finish at the end of the season looks like a serious possibility.

Arsenal welcome Brentford in the third round of the Football League Cup in midweek after which they play a home game against Watford next Saturday in the Premier League.
