Unai Emery will take charge of his first North London Derby this Sunday when Arsenal take on Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates.

Spurs have won the past two out of three derbies but this time Arsenal are in a much better condition – both physically as well as mentally.

The Gunners are breathing down the next of Chelsea who sit fourth on the league table and a win over Spurs will help Unai Emery’s men break into the top four.

Mauricio Pochettinho as revealed that he had a very professional relationship with Arsenal’s former manager Arsene Wenger.

He made it clear that the pair never shared a drink together and the post-match handshake was the only thing they did after the derby ended.

But talking about Unai Emery the Spurs boss has revealed how the Spaniard recommended him for a coaching job a couple of years back.

The time was 2012 and Pochettino was managing Espanyol at the time. This was when Unai Emery had told the Valencia chairman to make the Argentinian their new boss.

“He called me, the chairman of Valencia, and said ‘I want you in Valencia’,” Pochettinho said before the North London Derby.

“We were talking and he said ‘Unai Emery advised me and told me to pick you, you are the best manager’ and I said no, to say in Espanyol and then I called Unai who was in Spartak Moscow and said ‘thank you very much for recommending me.’

“I chose to stay at Espanyol at the time. I am loyal.”

Mauricio Pochettino left Espanyol in 2012 and moved to the Premier League as the Southampton boss.

But after spending just one year with the club, Pochettino joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2014.
