Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has been quite exceptional for the Reds this season and many believe that the Dutch international should be named the player of the season.
Van Dijk joined Liverpool has season and since then, he has become the mainstay of Jurgen Klopp’s backline.
And the defender once again had a wonderful game vs Everton in the Merseyside Derby this past weekend.
There are not many forwards who have had the better of Van Dijk this season but according to Robert Pires, Van Dijk should not win the POTY.
“I think Hazard is the best player in the Premier League and he fits the profile of what Real Madrid are looking for,” Pires said.
“I’ve seen talk about maybe [Virgil] Van Dijk winning Premier League Player of the Year, but there should only be one winner and his name is Eden Hazard.
“I watch Chelsea matches just because I want to watch Hazard play.
“Chelsea are very lucky to have Hazard and he can do things that no other player in the world can do.
“You look at his (Panenka) penalty in the Carabao Cup and who else would even try that against Ederson in that situation?
“The problem is that Hazard isn’t able to win the trophies his talent deserves at Chelsea so Real Madrid are a very attractive proposition.”
Eden Hazard has played in 27 Premier League games this season scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists. But unfortunately, all these goals and assists haven’t really helped Chelsea who are still fighting for the top-four spot on the league table.
Liverpool on the other hand, have managed to plug that big hole in defence by bringing in Virgil Van Dijk and the Dutchman has really made the Reds a stronger defensive unit.
