Barcelona are looking to sign some fresh midfielders in the summer and they are reportedly interested in Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka.

Carney Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for a fee of Є18 million in 2022 but so far he’s played in just 22 games across all competitions. He’s not even a regular starter under Pochettino but Barcelona feel the youngster can find success at Camp Nou.

Barca are reportedly planning to sell some midfielders in the summer so it’s not a surprise that they are eyeing a player like Chukwuemeka. But to go after someone who’s been warming the benches is a bit surprising.

Chelsea’s season has been riddled with injuries but despite that, Chukwuemeka has started only two Premier League games for the Blues, scoring one and assisting one goal. This calendar year he’s featured in only three games for a total of just 19 minutes.

Chukwuemeka played only 16 games for Aston Villa and then he joined Chelsea where he’s hardly got a chance to showcase his talent so it’s quite surprising that Barcelona wish to have him onboard. Having said that this is not the first time the Catalans have shown an interest in the midfielder because before he had joined Chelsea, Barcelona had met with the youngster’s agents but nothing materialised.

Apart from hoping that Carney Chukwuemeka will be a future superstar, one major reason that Barcelona want to sign him is probably because he might come cheap.

His current market value is only Є15 million and if Chelsea do want to get rid of him then probably a fee of around Є30-35 million should do it. However, all this is hypothetical because Chukwuemeka’s contract expires in 2028 so the Blues are in no hurry to cash in on him.

Chelsea have Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, Conor Gallagher and Moises Caicedo who do the same job as Carney Chukwuemeka so it won’t harm the Premier League side to offload him in the summer but that will only happen if Barcelona put a lucrative offer on the table, something that will be very hard for them to pull off.
