Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Rangers FC will take on Villarreal this Thursday in the Europa League and Steven Gerrard will be hoping that his boys can emulate the form which they showed during the qualifiers.

Rangers won their Premiership fixture this weekend vs Dundee but this game against Villareal will be a totally different ball game for the Light Blues.

Not only will the Gers be playing away from home but the manager has a number of absentees.

Villareal vs Rangers Team News:

Rangers have been lining up in a 3-5-2 formation during the past couple of games but the manager is expected to change that since Alfredo Morelos will not be available due to a suspension.

This means that Kyle Lafferty will be playing as the lone striker and will have that added pressure to score.

Another player who will remain absent is right-back Jon Flanagan who like Morelos also remains suspended for the clash.

James Tavernier will play at right-back with summer signing Borna Barisic playing on the left-hand side of defence. The centre-back duo will remain the same as both Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson have done a fantastic job.

Ryan Jack is currently suffering from a calf problem and is facing a race against time to be fit for Thursday’s Europa League clash. In case Jack cannot make himself available for the Villarreal game then the trio of Coulibaly, Ejaria and Scott Arfield will take the field.

Rangers’ predicted line-up:

Goalkeeper: McGregor.

Defence: Tavernier, Katic, Goldson, Barisic.

Midfield: Coulibaly, Arfield, Ejaria.

Attack: Ryan Kent, Candeias, Lafferty.
