UCL Champions League final UEFA Champions League

The Champions League is officially back.

And with that, the eternal debate between the Premier League and the other leagues have started coming up.

While the English top division boasts of being the most competitive league in the world but the last time a Premier League side won the Champions League was way back in 2012 when Chelsea lifted the trophy.

But Liverpool showed a glimmer of hope last season when they reached the finals only to lose out to Real Madrid.

And with Jurgen Klopp’s men repeating last season’s form many are wondering if the Reds can lift the trophy this time around.

And football pundit Gary Lineker has finally given his verdict on the fate of the Premier League clubs who are competing in the Champions League.

Lineker said“I think with their style of play Liverpool will go far again and obviously, Man City will have to be one of the favourites amongst the usual suspects,

“They’ve invested in the squad again and they have real strength and depth,” Lineker said.

“They invested in the midfield, which I didn’t think they needed to, but I really like Keita.

“Getting a ‘keeper in was absolutely essential and Alisson is very good. He’s been keeping Ederson out for Brazil so that speaks volumes for him.

“They’ve boosted in key areas and they have extra options up top.

“They’ll take some stopping. If you’re looking at teams to stop back-to-back leagues for Man City, then you’d probably go with Liverpool.

“City are as well-equipped as any team and will be a major threat. Of course, Pep will want it, it’s been a while since he last lifted the Champions League (2011).

“They’ll desperately want it, he’s driven, he’s ambitious, he’s brilliant. Everything is in place but it’s a tough ask.”

“The game has evolved, it’s far more open and attacking,

“We witnessed that in the Champions League last season with the top teams and with City winning as they did in the Premier League.

“He (Mourinho) simply has to get the best out of those excellent players.”
