West Ham United have already signed two centre-backs this summer in the form of Issa Diop joining from Toulouse and Fabian Balbuena from Corinthians.
But if Manuel Pellegrini’s recent transfer market activities could be studied properly then one can see that the new boss is planning to bring in a third defender before the new season starts.
According to reports, West Ham United are looking at Mexican centre-back Diego Reyes.
Reyes joined Porto in the summer of 2013 and since then the centre-back has spent two seasons out on loan in Spain – one with Real Sociedad and the other with Espanyol.
But now that the player has been released by FC Porto a number of European clubs are battling it out for the signature of this 25-year-old.
Diego Reyes played with Espanyol last season in the La Liga where he managed to make 35 appearances in all competitions – scoring one goal.
Now a free agent, West Ham United are interested in signing him up but as it stands they are going to face some stiff challenge from fellow Premier League club Newcastle United.

Some reports from Turkey are also claiming that Fenerbahce have also approached the player and are offering him a lucrative salary.
Logically joining West Ham United would be the right way to go for Diego Reyes but the fact that Manuel Pellegrini has already signed two centre-backs could work against them.
With two defenders already on board, there is no way that the Hammers can offer Diego Reyes a guaranteed first-team spot in which case both Newcastle United and Fenerbahce are in pole position to sign up the 25-year-old.
