Timo Werner to Chelsea EPL

Chelsea have already agreed on a deal to sign Timo Werner from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and now the wait is for the Premier League side to announce the deal formally.

Recently, Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann had hinted that Werner would be leaving this summer saying: ‘I do not expect Timo to be here next season,’

And now Evening Standard are claiming that the minor details of the deal have been completed and Chelsea should announce the signing sometime this week.

The report claims: “Chelsea are dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on their deal to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig for £53million.

“Standard Sport understands the transfer will be officially completed this week after smoothing over a number of minor issues thrown up by the coronavirus pandemic.

“The German striker’s £53million release clause expires today.

“The move has laboured since news first broke that the Blues were closing in on Werner earlier in June, with Covid-19 restrictions complicating the medical process.”

Timo Werner is set to become the second signing for Chelsea this summer after they recently added Hakim Ziyech to their ranks from Ajax.

The German’s release clause expires today meaning RB Leipzig should have agreed on the transfer by now and as per the rumours, the 24-year-old is expected to earn around £200,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge next season.

Once this deal is completed it will be interesting to see if Werner replaces Tammy Abraham or does the German international partner the Blues academy graduate upfront.

And now that this key deal is about to be completed, Frank Lampard should shift his focus to Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell who has been Chelsea’s transfer radar for a really long time.
