The FIFA World Cup 2018 is just about to lower its curtains in Russia with the final on Sunday and the governing body of football can boast of yet another world-class tournament.
Out of the 64 games only 2 are left which will be played on Saturday and Sunday after which the players will go on a short vacation and then rejoin club duties for the upcoming season.
But you will be surprised to know that FIFA actually pays various football clubs for allowing players to participate in the World Cup through their World Cup Benefits Program.
So let’s first clarify what exactly is the World Cup Benefit Program.
Well, the World Cup Benefits Program the contributions of football clubs for helping stage a successful World Cup and letting their players to play in the month-long tournament.
The Program was started before the 2010 World Cup with a budget of USD 70 million and this year FIFA has set aside USD 209 million for the Benefits Program.
FIFA pays around USD 8,530 (subject to any taxes and deductions) per day to the clubs for every player released by them during the World Cup.
And this year, FIFA will be paying out GBP 160 million to various clubs.
The lion’s share of this year’s compensation will be paid to the English clubs – mostly the Premier League outfits.
According to the data released by PR company Tonka, reigning Premier League Champions, Manchester City are at the top of the heap and will receive £3.904.400 from FIFA.
The next in the list is La Liga side Real Madrid who are get to receive £3.816.300 followed by another Premier League side Chelsea FC(£3.504.500).
Tottenham Hotspur come fourth on the list with £3.397.000 while Manchester United will earn £2.960.100 and are ranked seventh.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester City also make the cut at positions 12th, 13th and 14th respectively.
Celtic FC are the only club from the Scottish League who are set to receive £916.500 under the FIFA World Cup Benefits Program.
