There was a time when even a 5 or 10 million pound transfer would be enough to make the headlines on newspapers but now even 50 million pound transfer are considered pretty normal.
And this all started close to a decade back when Premier League club Manchester City was brought by a middle eastern owner who then kept on pumping millions of dollars each year to become the best in the world.
That started a revolution in the transfer market and almost every major footballing is now spending absurd amounts of money in order to bring in new players.
So the good folks at the CIES Football Observatory have come up with a list which shows the highest spending football clubs in Europe since 2010.
And there are no prizes for guessing as to which club tops that list.
Manchester City are number one – spending €1470 million from 2010 up till 2018 immediately followed by Chelsea who have spent €1310 million during that same period.
A total of 7 Premier League clubs have made it to the top 20 list with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool both coming inside the top 10.
Manchester United have spent €1102 million while Liverpool are just behind their arch-rivals at number 7.
The top three clubs from the La Liga, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid all come within the top 10.
There are only two Bundesliga clubs on the list – namely Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and both of them occupy the second-last and last positions on the table.
