Talk about the transfer window this year and almost everyone will think about the monumental move of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

And that transfer set in motion a chain of events which then went on to accept a number of other top clubs in Europe.

But what many tend to forget that this year there was another transfer window at the start of the new year which saw many a big move taking place.

Liverpool were easily the team of the January transfer window as one hand they sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona and then brought in Virgil Van Dijk.

Manchester United and Liverpool were also involved in a high profile switch as Alexis Sanchez moved to Old Trafford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan chose to go the other way.

The CIES Football Observatory have come up with a report in which they have calculated the total money spent by clubs during both the winter as well as the summer transfer window.

And there’s no huge prize for guessing that out of the top 20 teams, 10 of those belong to the Premier League.

FC Barcelona stand at the top of the rankings with a total spending of €321 million while Liverpool come in second.

Liverpool might have sold Philippe Coutinho for a huge sum of money to Barcelona but they themselves have made some big money signings during the two transfer windows.

Jurgen Klopp has brought in the likes of Van Dijk, Naby Keita and Alisson Becker and each one of them has been an expensive buy.

Juventus rank third on the like with most of their spending coming during the summer transfer window.

While the big names such as Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea also feature on the list but what is surprising to see is the fact that minnow Premier League clubs like Brighton and Hove Albion and Fulham have also been big spenders during the new year.

Borussia Dortmund are the only club from the Bundesliga while Monaco is the sole representative from the Ligue 1.
