Both the Old Firm clubs eyeing a move for this £15m centre-forward: Too expensive a signing?

Ivan Toney has been in blistering form for League One side Peterborough this season and as per the club’s chief Barry Fry, SPFL sides Celtic and Rangers are both interested in signing him.

Ivan Toney joined Peterborough from Premier League side Newcastle United in the summer of 2018 for a fee of around £648000 and this season, the player has scored an astounding 24 goals in 32 games in the League One.

But with this top-notch form also comes a massive price tag as Barry Fry has made it clear that the Old Firm sides will have to shell out as much as £15million if they wish to sign the 24-year-old for the next season.

He told The Daily Mail (via The Scottish Sun): “I’ve had agents on telling me that Rangers and Celtic are very interested. But I haven’t had any calls from either Rangers or Celtic, personally.

“If they have any sense, they’ll pay us £15million to get him. If they haven’t any sense at all, then I won’t be hearing from them.”

Is Ivan Toney heading to Scotland?

£15million is a really absurd price tag in terms of Scottish football, more so since the player has just one more year left on his current deal. And the only way Celtic or Rangers can pay such a massive sum is if they were to sell either Edouard or Alfredo Morelos.

Ivan Toney will undoubtedly want to play in the Scottish top division if given a chance but we don’t think the two Glasgow sides will be too eager to shell out so much money on one player this summer.

Having said this, the move of the Peterborough striker to the Scottish Premiership will obviously depend on whether the Gers and the Bhoys are able to hold onto their own centre-forwards or not.
