The 2019-20 season of the Premier League is about to kick off on Friday when Liverpool take on Norwich City and the first gameweek itself has some pretty exciting clashes lineup.

While West Ham United will take on Manchester City, Arsenal will have to travel to St James’ Park in order to take on Newcastle United. And for the showstopper, Man United welcome Chelsea at home on Sunday.

And just before the new Premier League season starts former Man United defender and current pundit, Rio Ferdinand has given his predictions for the top-four race and has also revealed why it isn’t a particularly nice time for him to work for television.

“It hurts man, it hurts,” Rio Ferdinand told Give Me Sport.

“I’ve got to speak about Liverpool and Man City winning things and being better than Man United at the moment.

“I’ve come into this punditry game at the wrong time because it hurts my soul having to talk like this.

“But as a pundit you’ve got to be honest, you’ve got to say it as you see it and those two teams are by far the better teams in the league at the moment.

“I think Man Utd will be a better team this year than they were last year,

“Man City[winners], [then]Liverpool – but by a bigger gap than last season – Spurs, Man United.”

Ferdinand thinks Man United will be able to overcome Chelsea as well as Arsenal in the race to qualify for the Champions League but with the kind of transfer window they have had, it will most certainly be an uphill task.

The Gunners, on the other hand, might have had the smallest transfer budget of all but still, Unai Emery has managed to bring in reinforcements for every area of the pitch thereby making a strong statement regarding their hopes of playing in the top division of Europe next year.
