As per multiple reports, Chelsea have managed to get their hands on Timo Werner as the forward seems to have agreed on a principle deal to sign for the Premier League side.

Matt Law wrote for the Telegraph: “Timo Werner has agreed to join Chelsea, who are on the verge of tying up a deal to sign the forward from Red Bull Leipzig.

“As exclusively revealed by Telegraph Sport on Tuesday, Chelsea have moved to sign Werner after Liverpool did not meet his release clause which is reported to be worth around £53 million.

“Werner has now agreed to join Chelsea on a contract worth almost £200,000-a-week and the club are now expected to agree a deal with Leipzig.”

This is obviously a huge blow for Liverpool who have been chasing Werner for months but at the same time, some people think that Arsenal have indirectly benefitted from this whole arrangement since the Blues were eyeing a move for Aubameyang as well.

Now that they have gotten Timo Werner, Lampard should drop his interest in the Gabon international. And according to former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley, the Blues chose to move for the Leipzig star and not for Aubameyang because of one major factor.

Speaking to ESPN, Burley said, as quoted by Daily Star: “Look, is Aubameyang one of the hottest strikers around? Absolutely.

“His goalscoring stats, even beyond the last two years, but certainly the last couple of seasons, at Arsenal, he’s produced the goods.

“But he is going to be 31 soon and you know Chelsea have been in the process of bringing in younger players.

“Clearly they need a striker, someone to come in with more experience and more quality than Tammy Abraham who has done a very good job.

“Clearly they are in the market for a striker. Are they in the market to shell out for a 31-year-old who they probably will get a couple of years out of? Potentially they are but only for the right price.”

If Timo Werner does move to Chelsea in the coming months then surely the Blues will no longer pursue a move for Aubameyang but we doubt if Mikel Arteta can breathe a sigh of relief even after that move is made official.

Some experts believe Liverpool will make one final attempt to try and tempt Werner into Anfield but if they fail then Jurgen Klopp could very well shift his focus to the Arsenal forward.

And if a team with Champions League status and probably with the Premier League trophy come calling, we doubt if Aubameyang can say no.
