Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with a move for Moussa Dembele this summer but they could miss out on the forward.
Dembele joined Lyon from Celtic two years ago for a fee of around €20 million and as per reports, the Ligue 1 side is ready to part ways with the forward, primarily since the club will not be playing in the Champions League next season.
Lyon has valued Moussa Dembele at around €40 million and recently, the club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has admitted that some of his players can head for the exit at the end of the season.
“I am going to do everything to keep the players,” the Lyon chief told Le Progres in France, as per the Standard.
“But players who are programmed to play in Europe could want to go elsewhere because we don’t have European football.”
Why Chelsea & Man United will not be able to sign Moussa Dembele?
Despite this boost, we think both Chelsea and Manchester United are likely to miss out on Moussa Dembele due to the presence of Inter Milan.
The Serie A giants are also interested in the Frenchman and Antonio Conte wants the 23-year-old as a replacement to Lautaro Martinez who is on his way out.
Martinez is on the brink of joining Barcelona and some rumours claim the deal could be wrapped up in the coming few weeks.
Barcelona are willing to pay around €60 million for Martinez which is more than enough to secure a transfer for Moussa Dembele in the summer.
Clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United will have to pay for Dembele out of their own pockets whereas Inter can just use the money from Martinez’s sale to bring the former Celtic man onboard.
Also, Inter Milan are surely going to play in the Champions League next season whereas Chelsea and Man United might still miss out on that chance by the end of the 2019-20 season. And without a doubt, a top forward like Moussa Dembele will want to play in Europe next season.
