Chelsea news Willian
Willian playing for Chelsea

Chelsea winger Willian is set to be a free agent in the summer and a series of top teams are running after him for his signature.

Clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in him while the name of current league leaders Liverpool FC has also been added to the wishlist in the past few weeks.

The winger has been free to sign a pre-contract with a club for some time now but Willian is yet to walk on that path. And now his agent Kia Joorabchian has hinted that due to the current lockdown scenario, the winger might take time before agreeing to join a new side for the 2020-21 season.

Kia told talkSPORT, as reported by Daily Star: “We are not sure at the moment how football is going to finish in terms of the season.

“We do know that there is a vote to try to get training back on May 18, and from there on see if we can get some games back in mid-June.

“We are not sure how FIFA and the Premier League will make decisions in terms of free agents and what happens when their contracts expire.

“There will have to be a lot of conversations, it’s not just Willian but I think all free agent players are in an awkward situation because ‘do you sign a new contract, do you sign for a month or even a longer period’.

“That will be something that will play itself out closer to the time.”

Is Willian staying in London next season?

If the Premier League was to carry on beyond the 30th of June, Willian has made it clear he will be ready to play for Chelsea even after his contract expires so that is also another reason why the 31-year-old has not announced his next destination yet.

But time and again, he’s hinted that he wishes to remain in the Premier League and possibly in London which means Arsenal and Spurs, the two frontrunners in this deal right now.

Some rumours claim, the Gunners are expected to get their hands on Willian thanks to his friend David Luiz who currently plays for the Emirates outfit while others think, the winger will opt to join the Lilywhites since he wants to play under Jose Mourinho.

Apart from the Premier League clubs, Inter Milan are also keeping tabs on the situation and various reports suggest that Antonio Conte is also eager to reunite with his former player.

Willian is without a doubt heading out of the Bridge at the end of the current season but we have a feeling the player will only announce his new club once the remaining matches are wrapped up.
