Rangers picked up a handsome 2-0 win over Celtic in the final Old Firm Derby of the 2018-19 season.

But going into this game, Hoops manager Neil Lennon made a couple of shocking selections.

The first and perhaps the major shock was that James Forrest was left out of the match-day squad despite being such in fine form throughout the season.

James Forrest was recently awarded the PFA Player of the Year but on Sunday he was replaced by Oliver Burke.

Burke was easily one of the poorest players for Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday and the going forward he provided absolutely nothing.

The other player who like James Forrest was absent from the matchday squad was Kieran Tierney.

Tierney has also been in fine form this season and many expected that the youngster would have been playing his final derby given that a number of clubs have shown interest in signing him during the summer transfer window.

But Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that the duo were absent from the Ibrox clash due to injuries.

Lennon said: “Both of them weren’t fit to play so we can’t take any chances with either of them.

“It’s obviously a blow, they’re both fantastic players.

“We want to finish the season as strong as possible with the cup final in mind as well. I’m looking for a big performance from the players.”

The absence of the duo did not have any impact on Sunday since the Hoops have already wrapped up the Premiership.

But in two weeks time, Celtic will take on Hearts in the Scottish Cup final and the fans are praying that Tierney and James Forrest can both return back to the full fitness before that game.
