Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has been a constant figure in the backline under new manager Thomas Tuchel but it looks like he’s still not keen to put pen on paper to a new deal, despite having just one more year left on his current contract.
The Sports Mole cites The Athletic saying: “Antonio Rudiger is reportedly not prepared to enter into contract discussions with Chelsea until after Euro 2020.
“According to The Athletic, the Blues had wanted to secure Rudiger’s future before this summer’s European Championships, but the defender has informed his English club that he will not be holding any discussions over his future until later in the year.
“The report claims that the German is currently happy at Chelsea and is keen on a renewal but is wary that his situation could change, having found himself out of the side under Lampard.”
Antonio Rudiger did not even come close to playing in the first-team under Frank Lampard and the then Blues boss even tried to sell the centre-back during the January transfer window.
But under the guidance of Tuchel, the 28-year-old’s fortunes have taken a complete turn and right now, he’s one of the first names on Chelsea’s teamsheet.
We can understand why Rudiger is not wanting to commit to his future so early and as per some reports, one reason why the German is taking time to think over it is because of Thiago Silva.
According to Le10 Sport, Silva is about to sign a new one-year with the Blues and maybe Antonio Rudiger feels that the Brazilian could once again push him down the pecking order.
Thiago Silva is currently out with an injury but it will be interesting to see how Thomas Tuchel sets up his defence once he returns after the international break.
The Blues have a lot of good central defenders in the form of Zouma and Christensen and if Tuchel decides to call Fikayo Tomori back from AC Milan then Antonio Rudiger could very well start packing his bags in the summer.
