Rangers FC have had a mixed season under their new boss Steven Gerrard and this despite the club has chosen to bring in more than a dozen players.

Gerrard was appointed as the Rangers manager last summer and since then the manager has looked to overhaul the Gers squad.

But according to Barry Ferguson, Rangers should stop making loan signings and instead start providing permanent deals to its players.

“I’m not a fan of bringing in the loan players,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer.

“I think these loan players will go back. Jermain Defoe won’t, he’s got an 18-month loan and I don’t think they’ll cancel that.

“I think in an ideal world, Steven Gerrard would like to bring in players on two and three-year contracts and that’s going to cost money. That’s when you’ve got to go out and pay transfer fees and whatever.

“I don’t know if Rangers have got that to go and do that.

“But in an ideal world, I think they need to go and get three or four players who are going to kickstart that team again.”

Ferguson has chosen to bash Rangers and Steven Gerrard for bringing in players on loan but sadly most teams in the Premiership depend on this structure to bring in players.

Everyone knows the Scottish clubs are not very high on budgets and loan moves are one of the more secure ways to ensure that teams like Rangers and Celtic keep getting top quality players.

But while Barry was busy bashing the Teddy Bears, he should have taken out time to find out that currently, Rangers have only five players who are on loan at the club – which we can safely say is a very normal number no matter which league you are in.
