Liverpool beat Bayern Munich 3-1 in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 and Bayern manager Niko Kovac has revealed why the Reds were so dominating.
At one point during the first half, it did looks like that Bayern Munich have the game in control and they would eventually find a way to knock out Liverpool.
But in the second half, the Bavarians lost all their rhythm and Liverpool took control of the match rather easily.
And speaking after the match, Kovac has claimed that the Reds were able to exploit their weaknesses really well.
“We were up against very, very strong opponents. I’d like to congratulate Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp. They were the better team over the two matches,” the Bayern Munich manager said.
“We kept the contest open until Liverpool’s second goal. You saw a set-piece can be decisive in a match like this.
“They closed us down well. We didn’t manage to play calmly and set up (Robert) Lewandowski, that’s why it was a deserved defeat. Our opponents attacked very early and at a high pace.
“We tried to use our full-backs to attack. We didn’t succeed because our opponents did a really good job, whereas we didn’t have our best day.
“Liverpool are a top team. They were finalists last year and are among the top teams in the Premier League. They exposed our limitations.
“We have the right to be disappointed. We are bitterly disappointed. We deserved to lose today. In two games Liverpool was the better team.”
After that 0-0 draw in the first leg everyone expected Bayern Munich to turn up the heat at the Allianz Arena but as Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic claimed after the match, the players weren’t even able to get their own fans completely behind them.
