Manchester United transfer target Donny van de Beek will be available in the transfer market this summer according to Ajax’s chief executive Edwin van der Sar.

Donny van de Beek is yet another excellent product of the Ajax academy and this season he’s been one of the pillars for the Dutch club in the Eredivisie, scoring eight and assisting six goals in 23 matches.

And as per Van der Sar, the attacking midfielder will be allowed to leave at the end of the season which is great news for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“Last year, we made verbal agreements with Onana, Tagliafico and Van de Beek to stay another season, and then we look to help each other and find the next step in their careers. Nothing has changed,” Van der Sar told Reuters.

“There won’t be a 50 per cent discount. The clubs can forget about that.

“In January last year, people said we were going to lose seven or eight players but we lost only two key members.

“The big clubs such as Bayern Munich have said the benchmark fee will go down in the next few transfer windows. But it’s easier for them to say because they are the buyers.

“Of course, the 150m-200m euros transfers are gone. But I think there is still a lot of value for players who come from Ajax: Well educated, experienced in winning and playing European football.”

Will Manchester United pull out of the transfer?

Donny van de Beek is a great talent and apart from Manchester United, there are a number of other clubs which have shown interest in the 23-year-old but we think, Solskjaer might just pull the plug on this transfer.

The first big reason is because the club have already managed to bring in an attacking midfielder in the form of Bruno Fernandes so it makes no sense to splash out money on a player who does the same job as the Portuguese.

Secondly, Manchester United will try their level best to hold onto Paul Pogba beyond the summer and if the Frenchman commits his future to the club, then surely Ole will cut the cord in the Van de Beek deal.

Third and most importantly, Van de Sar has made it clear that Ajax will not give a discount which means Man United will have to shell out around £47 million if they wish to sign the 23-year-old.

And in times of such a financial crisis, the Old Trafford outfit will not wish to splurge money unnecessarily.
