Mesut Ozil had been warming the benches at Arsenal for the whole of the previous season and clearly his situation hasn’t gotten any better this year either.

So far during the 2019-20 season, the German has managed to feature in only 2 games for Arsenal across all competitions with the manager preferring to use the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos alongside the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette.

And this continuous snub has led many people to believe that there has been a falling out between Mesut Ozil and Unai Emery which is why the playmaker has fallen down the pecking order at the club.

Now though Arsenal supremo Raul Sanllehi has come out to make it very clear that there is no rift between the pair and the only reason why Mesut Ozil is not being selected in because he cannot show the hunger during the training sessions.

Sanllehi said, as quoted by the Express: “Unai has had many good players in other teams also, and he has always followed the same policy,”

“That is to try not to make any distinctions, play the ones who work hard in training and reward the effort with playing time.

“There is nothing against Mesut on the contrary and I hope we get to see him much more in the next games because his qualities are without question.

“But he needs to contribute 24/7 and that’s what Unai expects from him.

“It’s not that he’s not working so well, but there are others who are deserving more playing time, but Unai can’t treat him differently than any other player.

“You may have read that Unai has put a barrier up, but nothing at all like this has happened.”

It’s no secret that Arsenal tried to offload Mesut Ozil during the summer transfer window but they could find an ideal buyer on time.

But it reports are to be believed then Unai Emery would once again try to sell him off at the start of the new year which goes on to show just how useless the player has become at the club.

Naturally, a player of the stature of Mesut Ozil would only be sold at the end of the season but now with so many attacking options available to him, the manager has no plans to hold onto him.
