Rangers FC are the favourites to sign left-back Barry Douglas from Leeds United during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Douglas has been playing for the Championship side after having moved there from Wolves back in 2018 but it’s being claimed that Leeds United are already willing to listen to offers for the 30-year-old.

And speaking about this possible transfer, Alan Hutton has predicted that the left-back is going to be a transfer target for Rangers FC if Borna Barisic is heading for the exit in the summer.

Hutton told Football Insider“Yeah, possibly. I think you have to look at the Barisic situation.

“I think that would be a key factor if he was to stay or leave but look, I think Barry Douglas is an excellent player. He went abroad, did really well, came back to Wolves and I thought he was arguably their best player.

“It shocked a lot of people when he was moved upon promotion. Possibly a move to Rangers, with him saying he supports them, could be a good opportunity for him to get back on track, back playing.

“He’s a wonderful crosser of the ball so it’s something Rangers look for in a player so I think he could fit in but a lot would hinge on the Barisic thing. I wouldn’t imagine he wouldn’t want to come up north to be sitting on the bench.”

A good signing for Rangers FC?

Barry Douglas joined Leeds for a fee of around €3.5 million but the full-back has really struggled to get playing time at Elland Road. This season, the 30-year-old has managed to feature in only 11 Championship matches and almost all of them have come off the bench.

TransferMarkt currently values Douglas at €2 million which is surely an amount Rangers FC can spend but we don’t think Gerrard will be too inclined to make a move.

Borna Barisic has endured a tough start at Ibrox but right now he has clearly won the trust of his manager. So unless Rangers FC are forced to sell off Barisic in the summer, we do not think, the Gers will try and sign the Leeds United outcast.
