Why the Premier League might push the resumption date of the 2019-20 season?

The Premier League is about to reopen it’s doors sometime during the middle of next month but right now a number of issues are starting to pop up.

First and most importantly, players like Troy Deeney, Mark Noble and now Willian have come out to voice their anxieties over such a hasty restart which we can’t help but agree with since the lives of not only the footballers but also their families are at stake.

And now manager Steve Bruce has pointed out that fitness of the players could be another major factor in the coming few weeks which is why the stakeholders should think about pushing the restart by a couple of more weeks.

“We’ve listened to what has been said and, with the precautions taken, we will get back to work and start phase one,” Bruce told The Telegraph, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“Can we get to that stage where we can have all the players on the pitch together? We don’t know yet.

“Phase one will be mainly fitness work, four or five players on a pitch. Let’s see how we get on [and hope there are no infections].

“We need enough preparation time to get these players into shape or they are just going to fall down like a pack of cards.

“Most of the managers have the same concerns. We would need at least six weeks. I don’t see how we can play games until the back end of June.”

Premier League resumption should be delayed?

Right now the Premier League is expected to return back to action either on June 12 or June 19 but the authorities have made it clear that they are willing to listen to all the suggestions and concerns.

And to be honest, the La Liga is also returning in and around that same week and their players have already started their phase one training. But in England, all the players haven’t gone ahead with the testing yet.

The EPL is the most-watched footballing league in the world so the last thing everyone would want is to watch players getting tired and fatigued much like a pre-season friendly.

Steve Bruce might be the first manager to raise his voice against such a modest time frame but we are sure he will not be the last. And if a couple of other league bosses stand up against this, then the Premier League will have no other option but to force the resumption back by a few more weeks.
