Arsenal and not Liverpool are the favourites to sign midfielder Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid during the upcoming summer transfer window – according to a report in Football Ghana.
The report states: “Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey is desperate and will only join Arsenal this summer or remain at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium till 2021 when he’d revisit the matter, Footballghana.com understands.
“This harmonizes with recent reports that Partey prioritises a Premier League switch ahead of other destinations as he desires to follow in the footsteps of Ghanaian star Michael Essien after his success in England and the PL with Chelsea.”
This is a great boost for the Gunners manager since he is in desperate need of a new defensive midfielder for the next season.
Why Thomas Partey has chosen Liverpool?
The midfielder has a release clause of just £43.5 million and as of this date, he has refused to sign a new contract at Atletico which is a clear indication that the player wishes to leave.
And while Simeone has been reluctant to sell him up until now but now the La Liga have finally given up and are willing to cash in on him.

But there’s one major reason why Thomas Partey has chosen to snub a move to Liverpool and join Arsenal.
You see, Liverpool might be the best team in the Premier League but at Anfield, Thomas will have to fight a lot of competition in order to secure a permanent place in the starting XI next season.
Whereas at Arsenal, the player will get guaranteed game time since both Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira have been really poor so far this campaign.
Arsenal might not be able to offer Champions League football right now but the way Mikel Arteta is reshaping things, the club should not take long before returning back amongst the elite. And it looks like Thomas Partey wants to be a part of the rebuilding process.
