Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer and as per the latest reports, the player is not eager to sign a new deal.
The club have already offered a new deal to the youngster but he is reluctant to sign it as he is not too thrilled with the terms of the contract. And this has led to Chelsea showing an interest in signing the 19-year-old as a free agent in the summer.
Angel Gomes has been training with the first-team squad all throughout this season but so far he’s managed to feature in only two Premier League matches – playing a total of just 19 minutes.
Is Angel Gomes heading to the Serie A?
Up until now, Chelsea have been deemed as the frontrunners to sign Angel Gomes but now as per rumours in Italy, AS Roma have also entered the race to sign the playmaker.
Inside Futbol reports: “Roma are considering a move for Manchester United starlet Angel Gomes, who is wanted by Chelsea.
“Gomes has attracted the attention of several teams and Chelsea are claimed to be looking to take the attacking midfielder to Stamford Bridge.
“However, Gomes could have an option in Italy as, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Roma are considering a move for him.”
Roma want a permanent deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan who’s on loan at the club but they cannot afford to pay the asking price being quoted by Arsenal which is why the Italian side might be looking at Angel Gomes.
Gomes will not cost a penny which is a great incentive for AS Roma but at the same time, Chelsea will not be too happy with this development.
Frank Lampard has been really pleased with Angel Gomes and is desperate to add him to this squad for the upcoming season and this entry of Roma is not great news for his plans.
But the Blues are by no means out of this transfer race since many experts believe Gomes would want to remain in the Premier League next season in which case, Chelsea is his best option for the Manchester United academy graduate.
