Wijnaldum’s career has failed to take off at PSG and as per some rumours, the ex-Liverpool man is now a transfer target for Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

Gini Wijnaldum left Liverpool as a free agent and the move was supposed to be the next step in his career. But this season, he has started only 14 Ligue 1 games, scoring one and assisting two goals.

Aston Villa are planning a major overhaul under Steven Gerrard and as per the latest reports, the Premier League side are keeping tabs on the midfielder’s situation at PSG.

Will Wijnaldum agree to join Aston Villa?

Wijnaldum is visibly frustrated with life in Paris and is ready to move back to the Premier League at the end of this season.

‘I can’t say I’m completely happy,’ he had said in October. ‘The situation is not what I wanted. I have played a lot in recent years, was always fit and also did very well. This is something different and that takes getting used to. I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult.

‘That’s football and I’ll have to learn to deal with that. I’m a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around.’

Some pundits think Liverpool might look to resign the midfielder given that they are yet to find a long-term replacement for him but we don’t think Jurgen Klopp will be too eager to bring him back.

Klopp had tried really hard to make him sign a new deal in his final year at Liverpool and now that the Anfield outfit are doing perfectly fine without him, the manager will not want to resign him.

Atletico Madrid have also been linked with the Netherlands international but a move to the Premier League seems a lot more probable at this point of the season.

Villa, on the other hand, could be the perfect place for the 31-year-old since he will very easily get into the Villa midfield and will get to play week in week out.

PSG reportedly want around £21million to let the midfielder leave and given that his contract expires in 2024, this price tag looks very lucrative.

Gerrard is obviously a Liverpool legend so he knows very well now to entice a former Klopp man and this could be a major deciding factor for Wijnaldum leaving PSG to return to the PL and join Aston Villa.
