Arsenal forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been in fine form for the Gunners during the 2018-19 season having 22 scored goals in all competitions.
But during the past two games, the Gabon international has been good enough to find a place on the substitutes bench.
Emery has chosen to start Alexandre Lacazette up front against Newcastle United and more recently vs Everton and Aubameyang has on each occasion had to come off the bench in the second half.
This had let to a couple of rumours claiming Aubameyang had fallen down the pecking order and Emery is not confident that Lacazette is his prime forward for the rest of the season.
Naturally, it led to multiple doubts that Auba will once again be on the bench when Napoli visit the Emirates on Thursday for the Europa League but now Emery has finally chosen to speak out on this issue.
“The first reason (Aubameyang has not started) is because he had a small problem and he has taken antibiotics for his illness,” explained Emery.
“That’s the main reason he didn’t start those two matches. For tomorrow, he’s getting better and can start.
“We are going to assess tomorrow Granit and Laurent, they are improving and they trained today with us, but I would rather wait for tomorrow morning to decide.”
It is more or less certain that Aubameyang will be returning back to the starting XI on Thursday which means Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the one will lose his place up front.
Lacazette and the former Dortmund man will start up front and as it has always been the case, Aubameyang will be given the free role in and around the attacking third.
