Man City take on Arsenal in the Premier League on June 17 and as per the latest reports, Aymeric Laporte is set to make a comeback in this game.

Aymeric Laporte was supposed to be the fulcrum in Guardiola’s defensive line during the 2019-20 season but the centre-back picked up a horrific knee injury while playing against Brighton in August.

Since then the 26-year-old has been on the treatment table and Man City have really yearned his services – especially during key matches. The player did manage to make a comeback in January only to pick up yet another injury during City’s Champions League clash vs Real Madrid.

Pep Guardiola in February had said: “He’s had four or five months [out] and it’s a problem when you come back, and he came back in this demanding game, it’s a pity.

“We dreamed to be with him until the end. Unfortunately, we’ve suffered a lot in this department.

“Life is not easy and always in the world, the people who survive are the ones who cope with the bad moments. It is what it is. Accept it, work hard to come back as soon as possible.”

Will Aymeric Laporte be fit enough to start against Arsenal?

Thankfully, this unexpected shutdown has been a blessing in disguise for the French international as he has made a full recovery is expected to feature in the first-team squad against Arsenal on June 17.

Aymeric Laporte is more than fit to start a game but we feel Guardiola might not risk using him so early, especially since they are still alive and kicking in the Champions League.

Fernandinho and Otamendi have done more than a decent job as the first-choice centre-back pairing for Man City for most of this campaign and it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Pep Guardiola opts to use them against the Gunners at the Eithad.
