FC Barcelona have not given up hopes of signing Bernardo Silva and it looks like the midfielder is also desperate to join Xavi’s team.

MCFC have lost Gundogan and Mahrez this summer and because Silva can play in both these positions, Pep Guardiola is not too keen to let go of him. The club have put an £80 million price tag on the midfielder which has made it really hard for Barcelona to make any sort of concrete approach.

A report in Mundo Deportivo is claiming that Barcelona are all set to make a formal move for Bernardo Silva now that Ousmane Dembele is on his way to PSG. This is not all because a couple of days ago, Sport had reported that the Portuguese international wants a fresh challenge which is why he is now prepared to force a move out of Manchester City.

Do Barcelona have the financial prowess to sign Bernardo Silva?

Bernardo Silva, so far, has shown no signs of discontent at MCFC but if these reports are correct then he will definitely ask his manager to let him go.

Guardiola, at the start of the summer, was pretty casual about all the exits but now he’s realised that too many important players cannot be allowed to leave right after a treble-winning campaign. The manager has made it very clear that he wants to hold onto the midfielder which is why the club has also offered him a new and upgraded contract.

However, with Dembele set to exit, Barcelona will have some money in their pockets and as per the rumours, Joan Laporta and co have already set the ball rolling in terms of signing Silva.

They will have no issues in agreeing on personal terms but we seriously doubt if they have the financial might to convince MCFC on a sale. City are very clear they need around £80 million to let him leave and despite getting money from Dembele’s move to PSG, we don’t think Barca will be able to pull this one off.

A loan deal with an obligation to buy can still work in favour of the Blaugrana but it remains to be seen if Manchester City are ready to accept such a proposal or not. Silva wants to join Barcelona so that he can move closer to his family in Portugal and we have a feeling his agent Jorge Mendes will be the key in this complicated negotiation.

Pep Guardiola has players like Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez who can play out on the right wing and he’s also brought in Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for the midfield department but Bernardo Silva is the senior pro in the team who has played more than 300 games for MCFC. Last season, despite being a midfielder, he spent most of his time out on the right wing but still, the 28-year-old managed to score four and assist five goals in 34 Premier League matches.
