Manchester City will head to North London to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup and Guardiola has updated on the injuries to Erling Haaland and Ederson before this tie.
Ederson suffered a gash during Man City’s win over Newcastle United and he had to be taken off. However, his injury is not serious and Pep Guardiola has revealed that the keeper will be available for selection on Friday.
For the FA Cup games, Guardiola has relied on Ortega as his number one but since their 4th round game is against Spurs, the Man City manager will most likely bring Ederson in front of goal.
John Stones will also return from his injury and there’s a chance he could start alongside Rodri in central midfield.
Erling Haaland has been out since the beginning of December after suffering a foot injury in the Aston Villa game and his manager has revealed that the forward is not ready to face Tottenham.
“He’s on the verge of coming back,” Guardiola told the press. “Tomorrow, still he is not ready but he is close.
“Some training sessions he has trained in the last two days. It’s not perfect so we wait a little bit more.”
Pep Guardiola has coped well with the absence of Erling Haaland with Julian Alvarez leading the line and on Friday, he will continue with the same personnel. Alvarez alone might not have been able to breach Spurs’ defence but now that De Bruyne is back, Guardiola can breathe a major sigh of relief.
Erling Haaland has scored 14 goals in 15 league matches this season so clearly his absence cannot be fulfilled but Man City have the stars to fill up that void quite easily.
Jack Grealish was also on the bench against Newcastle so he is in contention to start on the left flank while Bernardo Silva operates on the right.
