Arsenal are going to challenge North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of RB Leipzig’s 23-year-old striker Lois Openda, claims the reports.

Mikel Arteta has told the press that his club might not bring in new signings during the January transfer window but the Gunners continue to be linked with a series of top talent.

Signing a new centre-forward is one of the top priorities for Arsenal and Lois Openda could be one of the few signings of the new year.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Harry Kane and Openda is said to be one of the manager’s top priorities. The Belgium international joined RB Leipzig in the summer for a fee of around €38.5 million and this season, he’s already netted 12 goals in 18 league games for the German side.

The 23-year-old has been on fire in his first season in the Bundesliga and if the fee is right, Leipzig won’t mind cashing him at the end of this campaign.

Openda’s current market value is around €55 million and his contract expires in 2028 so Arsenal and Spurs will have to be ready to shell out an insane amount.

Arsenal had the chance to sign him last summer for a fee of around €30 million but he chose otherwise. However, Mikel Arteta seems to have reignited his interest but this time around things have gotten a lot more complex.

Arteta’s side are looking at players like Osimhen, Vlahovic and Ivan Toney while he is eager to get rid of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah. If Jesus and Nketiah are both offloaded then Arsenal will probably have to bring in two strikers and Lois Openda could be one of them.

Spurs, however, will feel confident about landing the 23-year-old because the main striker’s position is up for grabs so if they can agree on a potential fee with RB Leipzig then their North London rivals could drift away.
