Rangers FC right-back James Tavernier is wanted by Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion – as per an exclusive report in 90min.

The report claims: “Brighton and Hove Albion are lining up a Tavernier one-two punch this summer, as Rangers captain James and Middlesbrough winger Marcus high on their transfer agenda.

“All hands are on deck to secure the club’s top-flight status, and the source has indicated to 90min that although they are confident of winning their fight against the drop, they are planning moves to sign both Tavernier brothers this summer – regardless of what division they are in.”

Will James Tavernier be sold to Brighton?

James Tavernier joined the Gers from Wigan back in 2015 and since then, the full-back has been a key figure at the back for the Glasgow side.

But during the 2019-20 season, he has looked a bit shaky despite providing nine assists in 24 games for the Ibrox outfit.

Last summer a few English clubs had shown interest in signing the right-back but Gerrard managed to hold onto him for one more season. Now, some experts think the manager himself might want him out this summer as the club could use the transfer money to rebuild their squad.

Right now TransferMarkt values James Tavernier at £4.32 million and given that he still has two years left on his current deal, the Gers can squeeze out at least double the price from the Seagulls this summer.

But we doubt if James Tavernier will move to England if Brighton are relegated to the Championship. Currently, they are just two points above the bottom three and if Graham Potter’s side can survive the demotion then they have a very bright chance of signing the Rangers full-back.

Or else, the 28-year-old should opt to remain in Scotland for one more season.
