According to Sport, FC Barcelona have made a formal offer to sign Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo on loan deals from Manchester City.

Barcelona have been keen to land a new full-back this summer and right now, Joao Cancelo remains Xavi’s top priority despite the club keeping tabs on alternatives like Jeremie Frimpong.

Joao Cancelo had a falling out with Pep Guardiola last season and the pair seems to have mended their ways this summer. The MCFC manager had even claimed during pre-season that the full-back might have a future at the club but it will be interesting to see if he changes his mind after this fresh approach from Barcelona.

Will Barcelona be able to join Joao Cancelo or is he on his way to the Middle East?

There’s no way Barcelona will be able to land Bernardo Silva, that too on a loan deal but there’s a possibility MCFC will allow Cancelo to leave.

The Portugal international did not feature in the Community Shield and immediately there was chatter of his exit but the MCFC manager has claimed that Cancelo did not travel due to personal reasons.

“He [Cancelo] has to go home to Portugal to sort something with his family,” the manager said, as per Goal.

Manchester City had plans to offload the 29-year-old at the start of the transfer window and now that Barcelona wish to sign him City can very easily allow him to leave.

A loan deal for the 23/24 season with an obligation to buy clause will work perfectly for both teams but as per rumours, a Saudi club has now submitted a lucrative offer for the right-back.

There are no further details about this offer but the Saudi Pro League teams are offering massive packages and if the salary package is great then there’s a big chance Joao Cancelo will snub Barcelona.

Currently, the right-back prefers a move to the Camp Nou but Man City will want to offload him permanently instead of sending him out on a loan deal for a full season. Also, Barcelona are in financial distress so they won’t be able to pay a big transfer fee for Cancelo. City want around €50 million for the defender and it’s clear that the Blaugrana cannot afford to pay this amount which is why they have made a loan offer.

If Joao Cancelo wants to keep playing at the top level then Barca have a very good chance of landing the defender but if he wishes to earn crazy amounts of money then a Saudi club could be his next destination.
