Arsenal misfit Matteo Guendouzi has been having a wonderful spell with Marseille this season and this fine run of form seems to have attracted the interest of Newcastle United, as per Foot Mercato.

The Magpies are under new ownership and the new management is reportedly keen to sign Matteo Guendouzi during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal since Mikel Arteta took charge at the club but he’s sort of revived his career in the Ligue 1 this season. He’s played 13 league games this season, scoring two and assisting three goals.

Newcastle United are planning a major overhaul of their first-team squad and Guendouzi could be one of those players who can become the midfield fulcrum for the side next season.

Will Matteo Guendouzi agree to join Newcastle United?

Some pundits think his performances at Marseille could tempt Arteta to give him another chance at Arsenal but the manager has more or less hinted that Guendouzi has no future at the Emirates.

Speaking last month, Arteta said, as quoted: ‘For right now, he is gone for the season, and I think he is having a really good spell with Marseille. It is part of the plan that we made with him.

‘He has continued with his development, and we will make a decision at the end of the year. I do not think you can say that [he has played his last game for Arsenal] about a player that is still here.’

The Gunners boss should have no problem in cashing in on the 22-year-old and given that his current market value is just 19.8 million pounds, Newcastle United will also have no problems in making a move for him.

Having said that though, OM’s loan agreement has an obligation to buy and if he can keep up his form for the rest of the season we don’t think the French side will be eager to let him slip away.

Also, Matteo Guendouzi is loving life in the Ligue 1 and we doubt if he would want to come back to the Premier League and grind it out at a new club.

Overall, Arsenal should have no problems in letting the 22-year-old leave next summer but whether Newcastle United can get their hands on him will depend on Guendouzi and Marseille.
