Premier League side Arsenal have been linked with a summer move for Celtic’s 22-year-old centre-forward Odsonne Edouard, as per various publications.
The Frenchman joined the Bhoys two years ago and this season he has been one of the best strikers not just in Scotland but in European football. The forward has featured in 27 Premiership games during the 2019-20 season and has managed to score 21 goals and provide 12 assists.
The Gunners are really keen to wrap up this transfer since Alexandre Lacazette might be heading out of the Emirates but according to Christopher Jullien, Odsonne Edouard could remain at Park Head for one more season.
“I speak with Odsonne a lot. We are friends. I know how good Celtic is for him and how happy he is right now.” Jullien told RecordSport.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen but personally I think he is at one of the best clubs in Europe.
“We will see what happens but I hope everything is going to be fine for next season.
“Odsonne has been huge for us. He’s scored so many goals but he gives more than that to the team. His all-round game is fantastic. He holds the ball in for us, he controls the tempo and gives us so much with his dribbling and skills. We are so happy to have him.”
Will Odsonne Edouard remain at Celtic?
Neil Lennon would love to hold onto Odsonne Edouard beyond the summer but if a substantial bid comes along, the Bhoys will have no other option but to sell him off.
As per rumours, the forward is currently valued at around £30 million by the Celtic hierarchy which is kind of a steep price to pay for Arsenal right now. And this could be the major stumbling block in this transfer.
While Mikel Arteta will most certainly want a discount in the price tag but Odsonne Edouard is the most valuable player in Celtic’s squad right now. So it will be interesting to see if Lennon is willing to slash his demands or hold onto the 22-year-old for one more season.
Despite all the interest in Edouard, Arsenal will make a move for the Frenchman only if Lacazette is heading out in the summer.
