Man United are trying to make a rather shocking move to sign 25-year-old Raheem Sterling from Manchester City this summer – as per a report in the Independent.

The England winger joined the Blue Half of Manchester in 2015 from Liverpool for a fee of £57.33m and right now he is one of the prime players in Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad. But as per the report, Man United will try and sign him if their local rivals were to lose their Champions League status next season.

The report states: “More intriguing is one name suddenly high up in priority, and who the analytics department have been working on. That is Raheem Sterling.

“Nobody sees the player as any way likely to go to Manchester United, but some do feel it is a reflection of a relative uncertainty around his future if Manchester City’s Champions League ban is upheld.

“In other words, if he becomes available, United will go for him.”

Will Raheem Sterling think about joining Man United?

Raheem Sterling is easily one of the best wingers in the Premier League and this season, the 25-year-old has already netted 11 goals in 24 league matches.

But we do not think this move to Old Trafford is likely to happen because of a couple of reasons.

The first and the most obvious one is that Sterling will not want to join a direct rival to Man City even if the Citizens do not play in the Champions League next campaign. If Pep Guardiola remains at the club then there’s no way the English international will want to swap loyalties so swiftly.

The second reason why Man United will not look seriously at Raheem Sterling is because of Marcus Rashford, a player who operates on the same flank as his international teammate.

Rashford has been in the form of his life this season, scoring 14 goals in just 22 Premier League matches and the left side of the pitch is perfectly suited to his abilities. And this is why we do not think, Solskjaer will look to rub Marcus Rashford the wrong way by trying to bring in Raheem Sterling in the summer.

And as per some rumours, Real Madrid have shown an inclination towards signing Raheem Sterling so if the winger did decide on an exit, he is more than likely to head to the Bernabeu than Old Trafford
