Timo Werner Liverpool
Timo Werner (RB Leipzig, 11) kann sein Versagen nicht fassen, nachdem er völlig frei stehend über das Tor schoss; Enttäuschung, enttäuscht, Frustration, disappointed

It’s only a matter of time before Premier League side Liverpool get their hands on Timo Werner as Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann seems to have accepted defeat.

Recently, there were reports that Liverpool had made contact with the Bundesliga side over the transfer of the 24-year-old as Jurgen Klopp is eager to wrap up this deal before Werner’s release clause expires.

The report claimed: “Liverpool are believed to have already held discreet discussions with RB Leipzig, in which they laid out their intentions to sign Timo Werner. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have been in contact with RB Leipzig.

“The transfer saga looks set to be a dominant storyline in the coming months as the Reds and other clubs acclimatise to the current financial landscape.

“The Plan A for Liverpool at the end of this season has always been to sign Werner. Werner is the man who Klopp and the board want to bring through the door.”

And just days after this news broke, the Leipzig boss has admitted that the club will be helpless in case Timo Werner decides to head out in the summer.

“There is nothing we can do about it. He knows what he has in Leipzig and also what he has with me,” said Nagelsmann, as per the Independent.

“He gets many chances to develop himself. I don’t know if it will help him that much if I tell him every day.

“A player has to feel that he can get better. If he doesn’t feel that, it wouldn’t do any good if I kept on telling him to stay here.

“In the end, it is his life, his career, he can decide that. I can’t think of anything new to say to Timo.”

Apart from Liverpool, teams like Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the German international but the Anfield outfit have been the favourites from day one.

Timo Werner is desperate to play under Jurgen Klopp and if he ends up in the Premier League, then Liverpool will be the obvious choice.

The forward’s release clause expires on June 15 meaning there are serious doubts if Liverpool can manage to make a formal offer before this date. And if they fail to do this then RB Leipzig will have the upper hand in this bargain for the rest of the summer.
