Premier League side Chelsea FC might be planning an audacious bid for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde according to a report by Defensa Central(h/t Evening Standard).

Federico Valverde has come up through the Madrid academy and right now, the Uruguayan international is one of the key players for Carlo Ancelotti’s team. He’s played more than 200 games for the Madrid senior side and has also won 49 caps for Uruguay.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are going through a major overhaul after missing out on Champions League football and they have already seen a large exodus of players, especially midfielders. The likes of Loftus-Cheek, Kante, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic have all left the club so it’s no surprise that the Blues are being liked with Fede Valverde.

However, the shocking part of this news is that Chelsea are reportedly planning to make an offer of €115 million for the 25-year-old. This offer is perfectly in line with the midfielder’s market valuation which is currently €100 million.

Why are Chelsea interested in signing Federico Valverde and will they be able to sign him?

Chelsea need a central midfielder after Kante and Kovacic’s exit and right now, they are very much interested in signing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo was one of the top central defenders last season in the Premier League but the Seagulls want £100 million on him and it’s a very steep price to pay for a 21-year-old who has had only one good season so far. Rice and Caicedo were the top central midfield target for clubs this summer and because the former has already joined Arsenal, Brighton have no reason to lower their transfer demands.

Chelsea do have money to spare which is probably why they think it’s wise to spend it on a seasoned pro like Federico Valverde, a midfielder who has won two La Liga titles and one Champions League trophy with Madrid.

Honestly, Fede is too important for Carlo Ancelotti but, in the past, Real Madrid have shown that they will sell even their best players if a club offers the right transfer fee.

If Chelsea are ready to pay €115 million for the 25-year-old then it’s more than his worth right now and because Florentino Perez needs money to bring in Kylian Mbappe, Madrid can very actually allow Federico Valverde to leave.

Chelsea have already brought in more than €250 million through player sales this summer so they have money to spare and if they can bring in a world-class midfielder like Valverde then it will be an equally important signing to Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal.
