Chelsea superstar set to make his debut against Arsenal or will he be on the bench?

Romelu Lukaku Chelsea

Chelsea have brought Romelu Lukaku as their marquee signing of the summer and he is definitely in line to make his second debut for the side this weekend.

The Blues take on Arsenal in their second match of the new season on Sunday and Thomas Tuchel has hinted that the forward will get minutes at the Emirates Stadium.

The manager has hinted, as quoted: “We have one more training session to go but the week was a heavy load.

“He was with the group with the late starters, so it was an overload week so far.

“Today was low intensity and tomorrow we will have an important session before the match. We hope he will be on the pitch on Sunday and it looks likely.”

Romelu Lukaku to replace Timo Werner?

If Romelu Lukaku is starting upfront then it’s bad news for Timo Werner since he is the forward who is most likely to make way for the Belgian international.

Romelu Lukaku will lead the line with Mason Mount and Kai Havertz expected to play in the supporting roles just behind him.

Christian Pulisic will not be available for selection but the good news is that Hakim Ziyech is almost back to full fitness.

Ziyech will go through a late fitness test and he should be fit enough to start on the bench against the Gunners.

Lukaku will definitely be the main centre-forward on Sunday but some experts have argued that Tuchel is really happy with Timo Werner’s work rate and his ability to run behind defenders. And maybe this is why the manager will want to keep him in the side and ask him to link up the ex-Inter Milan man in the final third.

But if Werner and Romelu Lukaku are playing together then it will be a massive headache for the Arsenal defenders who were literally bullied by the Brentford forwards in matchweek one.
