Rangers FC have been linked with a move for goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky and the player has now hinted that he does not wish to move out of the United Kingdom during the summer.

Hladky was with St Mirren during the 2019-20 season but at the start of this month, his contract with the club has expired meaning now he’s a free agent. And while talking to the Scottish Sun, the player has opened up about the Gers’ potential interest in signing him.

“I want to stay at a club in Britain,” Hladky told the Scottish Sun. “My wife and I have stayed in Scotland since the (global health crisis).

“My St Mirren contract is ending and my agents are working to get me a new club. I’m hoping that will be fixed up as soon as possible and we talk on a daily basis.

“From the day I arrived at St Mirren, I have been extremely satisfied with life here. The club is next to Glasgow and we live in the city. It is a very pleasant place to live.

“I like the friendly lifestyle of the local people and I can’t praise it enough here. It was a great experience for me to shake hands with Steven Gerrard and the praise I get motivates me.

“I don’t want to speculate about Rangers being my next team. My transfer is being worked out at the moment – it could be to a club in Scotland or the English Championship.”

The fact that Vaclav Hladky wants to stay in the UK is great news for the Gers who up until now, seemed to be leading the race to sign the keeper.

But recent rumours have suggested that Neil Lennon is also keeping a close eye on the 29-year-old and the Hoops could try and make a move for him in the summer.

While this is going to be a bit of a concern for Steven Gerrard but we have a strong feeling that Celtic are will first go all out to hold onto their current No 1 Fraser Forster. And Lennon will only make a move for Vaclav Hladky once he’s failed to achieve his initial target.
