Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard is keen to make a move for St Mirren keeper Vaclav Hladky during the summer – as per the Sunday Post.

Vaclav Hladky joined St Mirren in January fo 2019 from Czech Republic side Slovan Liberec and during the course of the ongoing season, the 29-year-old seems to have caught the attention of the Rangers boss.

Gerrard already has a few keepers in his current squad but the Gers are expected to part ways with Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick during the summer. And this means the manager is currently out in the market for a new shot-stopper.

As per the report: “Rangers are looking to sign a back-up to Allan McGregor, and a move for St Mirren’s Vaclav Hladky is likely this week.”

Vaclav Hladky has managed to keep 10 clean sheets in 30 Premiership matches this season but there are still a few doubts over his possible move to Ibrox.

Will Vaclav Hladky snub Rangers FC?

The first major reason why Vaclav Hladky could snub a move to Rangers is that Allan McGregor is the current No 1 at the club meaning if Hladky does join the Teddy Bears, initially he will have to warm the benches.

Secondly, apart from Rangers, the 29-year-old is also being eyed by English club Sunderland and also by MLS side Houston Dynamo. Apart from these two clubs, some rumours have claimed that Glasgow rivals Celtic are also admirers of the keeper.

These reasons could be more than enough to convince Vaclav Hladky against a move to Rangers FC but most pundits think the Czech international will not be able to reject a move to a club like Rangers especially when he is currently playing for St Mirren.

The keeper is currently valued at €400,000 as per TransferMarkt but the keeper is out of contract at St Mirren at the end of this month meaning Steven Gerrard will be able to sign him as a free agent in the summer.
