Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi has revealed that he would like to return back to the Camp Nou this time to manage the La Liga giants.
The Spaniard has now gone into management and is currently the manager of Qatar Stars League club Al Sadd, a club where he ended his playing career.
But while the Barcelona legend has hinted that he wishes to return to the dressing room as but has also insisted that there should be no toxicity inside the dressing room.
“I am clear that I want to return to Barcelona, I am very excited,” Xavi said in an interview with La Vanguardia, via Sky Sports.
“Now that I have seen myself coaching I think I can bring things to the players.
“But I made it clear to them that I saw myself in a project that started from zero and in which the decision-making was mine.
“I have no problem: I don’t hide, I don’t take it back.
“I would like to work together with people in whom I have confidence, with whom there is loyalty and who are very valid people.
“There can’t be anyone toxic around the dressing room.”
Will Xavi be the next Barcelona manager?
Barcelona sacked Ernesto Valverde back in January and has since named Quique Setién as their head coach.
And while this claim from Xavi will really excite the Barcelona fans but there’s still a long way to go before the former midfielder returns back to Camp Nou.
Xavi took charge of Al Sadd last summer and so far he has only managed 28 games for the Qatari side.
So the last thing Barcelona would want to do is to bring in a novice manager at a time when they are desperate to bring back their European glory days, we don’t think the Catalan giants will take the risk of naming Xavi as their next boss.
Yes, a number of English clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United have chosen to lay their fate on former players but Barcelona surely cannot afford to take such a big gamble.
