Arsenal are set to battle Liverpool for the signature of Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are looking to bring in a long-term replacement for the ageing Petr Cech and Arsene Wenger is reportedly eyeing a move for Bernd Leno.

Leno joined Bayer Leverkusen permanently back in 2011 after moving from Stuttgart and since then the German International has made himself the mainstay for the Bundesliga outfit.

Leno’s current contract with Bayer ends in 2020 and the Sun are reporting that the German shot-stopper is looking for a new challenge during the summer after spending seven years with the club.

But Arsene Wenger is the not the only manager who has eyes on the keeper as Liverpool are also planning a bid for the Bernd Leno.

Jurgen Klopp is also looking to bring in a top-class keeper during the summer and like the Gunners’ manager he too is planning a move for the 26-year-old.

Leno is currently Germany’s third choice keeper behind Manuel Neuer and Marc-Andre ter Stegen and he feels that securing a high profile move for the next season will increase his chances for playing in the Germany first team more often.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal are going through the same goalkeeper issues this season and they are adamant about solving this issue during the summer.
