India all set for Women’s Football League.

The All India Football Federation yesterday launched the first ever Women’s Professional Football League in India.

Mr Praful Patel was present at the launch of the event which kicks off at the Ambedkar Stadium on the 28th of January. There are six teams which will be taking part in the opening season. And all of the matches are to be played at the Ambedkar Stadium.

The six teams taking part in the first ever Women’s Professional League. FC Alakhpura(Haryana), Jeppiar Institute of Technology(Puducherry), Eastern Sporting Union(Manipur), Aizawl FC(Mizoram), Rising Student Club(Odisha) and FC Pune City(Maharashtra) are the participating teams.

All the teams will play off against each other and the top four teams will eventually advance to the semi-finals. The captains of their respective team were present during the launch of the event as they unveiled the trophy.

The Indian’s Football Team are ranked 54th in the FIFA rankings. Which is quite high compared to the Men’s Football team. And surprisingly the women’s team have never fallen out of the top 100 in the rankings. AIFF President Praful Patel said that if they work hard then the Women’s team might have an outside chance for qualifying in the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

Indian sports minister Vijay Goel congratulated Praful Patel for taking the initiative for starting the IWL. And he believes that it will be the launching pad for some great talents in the near future.
