Are Liverpool quoting way too much for this French defender?

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are confident that they can offload Mamadou Sakho this summer while keeping their asking price intact.

Why do Liverpool want to sell Sakho?

Sakho joined Liverpool in 2013 from French club PSG. Upon joining he had a very good first season under Brendan Rodgers with the manager describing him as ‘a beast in training.’ But his club graph went on the decline ever since Liverpool appointed Jurgen Klopp as their new manager back in 2015.

The Frenchman had a spat with Klopp and was immediately sent back home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of 2016 for failing to respect the rules. And from that point onwards the 27-year-old found it really difficult to get back into the first-team.

He spent most of the 2016/17 season with the Liverpool Academy and was eventually loaned off to Crystal Palace in January where he spent the remainder of the season.

And now that the loan spell has ended, Liverpool are trying hard to offload to the player.

Isn’t £30 million a bit too much?

Apparently not.

The club had initially set a price tag of £30 million. Even though the amount is quite high but there have been numerous enquiries about the player.

And owing to this, Liverpool are pretty confident that they will be able to sell the player at the pre-determined rate.

Crystal Palace is one of the teams that have shown a keen interest in signing the player on a permanent deal. According to the report, Sakho has already held talks with the new Palace manager Frank de Boer.

But on the flip side, Crystal Palace are not quite ready to spend such a huge amount. The club’s chairman has already pointed out that they will have to be very realistic and spending £30 million might be a bit of an issue.

So even if Crystal Palace were to back out of the deal, Liverpool will still have a lot of suitors for the want-away player.

The Football Fan Base view:

We definitely feel £30 million is way too much for a player who is primarily an outcast. But Liverpool will not take anything less than that. Especially when there are a number of teams who are queueing up to buy the player.

So if Crystal Palace really want Sakho then they will have to dig deep into their pockets and find the cash.
