During an interview with The Scottish Sun, Rangers FC manager Graeme Murty said if David Bates continues his playing format then there is a chance of him signing a new contract with the club.

As reported by Transfermarkt.com, Bates’s contract last until the summer of 2018.

The 21-year-old defender is impressing everyone in recent weeks, he is one of the most talented and promising young defenders in Scotland.

His talent is keeping the Portuguese International central defender out of the team.

During the interview, Murty said: “The more he plays the more chance he has. We have to be respectful to David and his career.

“He’s taken the chance of playing in our first team with both hands.

“As a manager that delights me because I have a young man who is performing well. As for the contract status, you’ll have to talk to the director of football.”

Murty’s public praise of David Bates is a clear indication that he wants to give the youngster a new contract during the summer but that will totally depend on how the player performs until the end of the season.
