Arsenal were hoping to sign Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal this summer but it looks like Real Madrid have no intentions of parting ways with him, that’s according to Marca.

They claim: “At Real Madrid they are still very clear, the Norwegian’s game at Arsenal is giving the reason to those who bet on the midfielder, that Odegaard must be a fundamental piece in the future of the Madrid team.

“The contribution of the former Real Sociedad team to the game of the team led by Arteta is a reflection of the true game and level of the midfielder, who started the season with problems in one of his knees and was not given enough time to demonstrate his qualities of him. At the club they were convinced that once all the problems had been overcome and confidence restored to one hundred percent, the Odegaard explosion was going to come again.

“In fact, the Norwegian left accepting the salary cut, in a gesture that fully denotes the understanding between the leaders and the player, who has found in Arsenal and in Arteta the support that he lacked with Zinedine Zidane.”

Can Arsenal keep Martin Odegaard at the Emirates permanently?

Arsenal were hoping to keep Martin Odegaard in England by paying a transfer fee of around 40 million pounds but it looks like the Gunners are going to have to sweat it out to make the deal go through.

The Los Blancos are still willing to lay faith in the Norwegian’s talents and if he continues to impress in the Premier League then Zidane will undoubtedly call him back to Spain.

Recently, Martin Odegaard had hinted that he wishes to play regular football and this could be a key factor in deciding his future in the coming months. While he will love to return to the Bernabeu and prove his worth but Zidane will have to promise him a constant starting role next season.

While the Real Madrid boss might struggle to pull off such a stunt but this will not be a problem for Mikel Arteta.

The Arsenal boss will be more than willing to play him week in week out in the attacking midfielder’s role and once Dani Ceballos heads back to Spain, Odegaard will have even less competition.

But, in the end, the final decision lies with Real Madrid and since Martin Odegaard still has two more years left on his deal with his parent club, we doubt if Arsenal will be able to convince the Spanish side to make the loan deal permanent.
