AFC Bournemouth keeper Aaron Ramsdale has tested positive in the second round of testing – as reported by ESPN.
The 22-year-old had tested negative during the first phase of testing and according to the Cherries shot-stopper, he might have contacted the disease during one of his shopping trips.
“My test last Monday before we started training was negative,” Ramsdale told the Sun. “So this last week, I’ve done the usual things like going to the supermarket and going to the petrol station to fill my car up.
“I’ve been just as careful as before on lockdown and it seems to be a shopping trip where I’ve caught it.”
And right after this news broke, there have been fears that the rest of the AFC Bournemouth squad might have to go into isolation.
Thankfully the other Cherries players are not expected to be in much trouble since the team are only in phase one training which requires small group, non-contact training. Also, Aaron Ramsdale has been isolating himself.
Aaron Ramsdale added: “Now I have seven days’ isolation at home … It’s not ideal, obviously, with training.
“The club have been fantastic. The players and especially the staff have been saying if we need anything to just ask. Things like shopping, they’ll leave it at the door.”
The club have also released a statement in which they claim all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of their players and staff.
“Following strict adherence of the Premier League’s return to training regulations, the club’s training ground remains a safe working environment for players and backroom staff, who will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice per week,” AFC Bournemouth said.
