Liverpool fans woke up to the news of their club agreeing on a deal to sign goalkeeper Alisson Becker from AS Roma but it seems that their day is not going to end well.

Major publications in England are claiming that the Anfield outfit are all set to sign Alisson Becker for a transfer fee of £67 million but it seems that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to miss the 2018/19 season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool last summer from Arsenal for a transfer fee of £35 million but the midfielder had a horrible end to the season after he suffered multiple ligament damages during Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Roma in April.

The 24-year-old has to be stretchered out of the pitch and he eventually had to undergo a surgery.

Initially, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp refused to provide a return date for Oxlade-Chamberlain but now the German has revealed that the midfielder will miss the whole of the 2018/19 season and it will be a miracle if he can make a comeback next campaign.

Klopp said: “It is typical of Ox that he didn’t want the news to overshadow the end of the season and, to be quite honest, we thought we could wait and tell people at an appropriate time,

“It feels like now is an appropriate time to tell people that for Ox this coming season will be about focusing on recovery and rehab.

“We have known this from pretty much the day after he got the injury and after the successful surgery, we were sure of it. There has been no change, no setback – it’s exactly on the schedule we expected and planned for. The new information is that we’re now giving more detail publicly.

“His surgery – which he had on the day of our second leg in Rome – has been completely successful and his recovery has started superbly well.

“But the truth of the matter is that we are preparing this season knowing he will not be with us on the pitch for competitive matches for the majority of it. If we do see him back this season it will be a bonus.”

But we don’t feel that the Reds will miss Oxlade-Chamberlain given the fact that they have signed a number of midfielders who can replace the English International during the summer transfer window.
